Making critical healthcare affordable at scale
COVID Care Hospitals
India’s healthcare system faced an unprecedented collapse during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, Sustain Labs Paris led the creation of 28 COVID care hospitals and quarantine centres across the country, operational within an extraordinary 18-month period between 2020 and 2022.
Each hospital was set up through a unique public-private-university partnership model, drawing on our vast network of collaborators including governments, NGOs, corporations, and academic institutions. These facilities played a vital role in stabilising local healthcare ecosystems, saving more than 500,000 lives during the peak of the crisis.
This initiative demonstrated our ability to mobilise large-scale, cross-sector action under extreme pressure, delivering measurable impact when and where it was needed most.

Sustain Labs Paris's COVID Care Hospitals
Emergency Ambulances
At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, access to emergency medical transportation became a matter of life and death. As hospitals overflowed and families struggled to reach care facilities, Sustain Labs Paris designed, made, and deployed emergency ambulances in critical regions across India.
These ambulances were made by restructuring the humble Indian auto-rickshaw. These were then equipped to handle COVID-19 emergency case in the last mile, and coordinate in real-time with hospitals to optimise response times.

Working in collaboration with state governments and civil society partners, we helped bridge the last-mile gap in emergency response - transporting thousands of patients to life-saving care during the country’s darkest hours.
